Hyundai has presented its brand new one 2021 TucsonWith a dramatic design and enough safety and technology in the car to challenge premium competition.
The Tuscon is scheduled to arrive in Australia in the first half of 2021 and will be offered locally only as a long-wheelbase model, although world markets are also getting a short-wheelbase version.
It will also be the first Tucson model to receive the N-Line treatment and the second in Hyundai's local range to be offered with the sporty improvements after the i30 N-Line.
Exterior design
The new Tucson's 'parametric dynamics' design differs significantly in a crowded segment. It has kinetic details of the jewel surface and an innovative half-mirror type daytime running light that is seamlessly integrated into the parametric grid.
On the sides there are references to Lexus NX in its angular wheel arches, while the blade-like D-pillar finishers give the profile a unique look.
On the back, the taillights are reminiscent of the D-pillar finishers and are connected to one another over the full width by a light strip. Hyundai says, in order to achieve the purity of its design theme, the Hyundai logo is indented into the rear window while the wiper also moves up and tucked under the rear spoiler.
Inner
The interior of the Tucson, called "Interspace", offers multi-layered, sensual forms that convey a feeling of openness and serenity. At night, the cabin is immersed in adjustable mood lighting with 64 colors and 10 brightness levels.
The broad ridge of the dashboard blends evenly into the doors, with the vertically aligned center paneling cascading into the console "like a waterfall".
The dashboard is dominated by a 10.25-inch full touchscreen and a fully digital instrument cluster.
There's a smaller 8.0-inch touchscreen for cheaper options, but all offer Apple CarPlay and Android connectivity, which allows two devices to be paired at the same time.
Digital experience
According to Hyundai, the Tucson offers the best digital experiences in its class, including Hyundai's Digital Key app that turns the customer's smartphone into a smart key.
It uses Near Field Communication (NFC) to recognize authorized users and allow them to operate their vehicle without a key. You can lock and unlock your vehicle, start the engine and the air conditioning system from a distance of up to 27 m.
Another highlight is the car-to-home function, with which customers can control smart home devices from their car, e.g. B. turning on the air conditioner at home.
Engines and gears
The 2021 Tucson introduces a new naturally aspirated 2.5-liter four-cylinder that replaces the current 2.0-liter engine. In conjunction with an 8-speed automatic transmission, it has an output of 141 kW and 246 Nm (compared to 122 kW / 205 Nm).
In addition, there is a 1.6-liter hybrid gasoline engine with a turbocharger, which generates a combined output of 171 kW and a torque of 348 Nm and uses CVVD (Continuously Variable Valve Duration) technology, which reduces the valve opening time for optimal performance, efficiency and emissions managed.
Australia will continue to offer the current three-engine series for the time being, although HEV and PHEV have not been confirmed for the time being.
Hyundai hasn't announced the drivetrain for the new Tucson, but we can expect two- and four-wheel drive depending on the engine and variant.
Security technologies
Tucson offers more security features than ever before. The Hyundai SmartSense suite of safety features includes:

Australian prices and specifications will be announced closer to the Tucson's local launch.
