New Benelli 1200GT Grand-Tourer Unveiled in China

Benelli doesn't waste time developing brand new machines. The Italian brand, now owned by a Chinese company, appears to be on a portfolio expansion course. China is hosting the China International Motorcycle Trade Expo (CIMA) and Benelli is a strong player there. Recently the Benelli 1200GT was presented in all its glory. As the name suggests, it's a grand tourer and to be honest it looks like an outdated Honda Goldwing.

Powertrain

The most interesting feature of the new bike is the 1,200cc liquid-cooled engine, which is actually a borrowed and enlarged version of the Benelli 1,130cc in-line triple previously used on the Tornado and Tre-K motorcycles . The new engine can generate a massive 134 hp and 120 Nm of torque. The main competitor of the 1200GT is the BMW R 1250RT, which produces 136 hp and 14 Nm torque.

Function list

While the looks may be subjective, Qianjiang added several high-end features to make the model competitive in this segment. The bike is equipped with an inverted fork, a hydraulic clutch, a set of Brembo brakes, a push-start ignition, heated handles and saddle, and electronically adjustable mirrors. According to some reports, the bike will also have a pair of front and rear cameras, although Benelli has not yet confirmed how to use them.

The pictures also show some features being relocated on the dashboard, which unfortunately uses an analog tachometer and speedometer, and is also covered in a lot of hard, shiny plastic giving it a retro look. The entire cluster has a small color display, but the quality used could have been a little better.

The 1200GT takes a sheet from the BMW Motorrad design book and exactly follows the style elements of the BMW R1250RT. From certain points of view there are hardly any differences between the two sports tourers. While the price and final market specification are not yet known, the 1200GT is expected to roll off the assembly line in the first half of 2021.

The Chinese brand also has teased a new motorcycle wrapped under a green silk sheet, and a new engine too. We expect the TRK502X to officially debut at CIMA this week. Although there is no official confirmation in this regard, there is a good chance that the Chinese manufacturer will surprise us by revealing a sports bike or possibly a super-naked from the Chinese Italian group.
