The new Tesla The battery, dubbed the 4680 due to its dimensions (46mm x 80mm), reportedly provides five times the energy and six times the performance of previous comparable cells.
Just changing the physical design of the battery leads to savings of 14 percent per kWh, according to the company. The cost savings could lower the prices of electric vehicles and make them more competitive against their traditional gasoline and diesel vehicles.

New Tesla model worth AU $ 35,000 in progress
Elon Musk also announced that the company is working on a new entry-level model that he believes will start at $ 25,000 (AU $ 35,000).
This would make the new Tesla about the same price as the cheapest automatic Toyota RAV4 Currently for sale in Australia.
However, it is possible that the vehicle will become more expensive when it reaches our coast thanks to a number of taxes and duties that apply to imported new cars.
If previous Tesla product launches suggest it, the cheapest model in the new range is likely to hit the market later than the more expensive models.
Musk said the upcoming model has not yet been given a name, but is expected to be released in about three years and will feature fully autonomous driving technology.
